Kwaay Paay Peak (Mission Trails) - Friday 2/14 7:30 - 8:30 am

Trail head: Father Junipero Serra Trail near Kumeyaay Lake Campground
Meeting Point: At the Trail head
Distance: 2.3 Miles
Elevation Gain: 875'

A quick early morning hike to kick off the workday - if you can't usually make our midday hikes, head out to get this one in bright an early! Kwaay Paay is one of the Peaks in Mission Trails 5 Peaks Challenge. Although it's a short hike (just over a mile up), the elevation gain is just shy of that of Cowles Mountain.
Torrey Pines ***Kid Friendly for President's Day***
Monday 2/17 9:00 - 11:00 am

Trail head: 12600 N Torrey Pines Rd, La Jolla, CA 92037
Meeting Point: At the Trail head
Distance: 2-3 Miles
Elevation Gain: 364'

Let's hit up Torrey Pines with the kiddos!! We'll aim for the beach loop, depending on the tides. It will probably be busy for the holiday! So, plan to pay to park, or be willing to walk down from the overflow lot!
Palomar Mountain Observatory Hike - Sunday 2/23 7:00 am - 1:00 pm

Trail head: 35899 Canfield Rd, Palomar Mountain, CA 92060
Meeting Point: Frys Electronics (9825 Stonecrest Blvd, San Diego, CA 92123)
Distance: 4.6 Miles
Elevation Gain: 767'

Let's hike Palomar Mountain! This one is a bit of a drive and requires a Forest Adventure Pass, so we will meet at Fry's Electronics to carpool up. Anticipate 1h 15min drive time each way. The hike itself affords great views of the mountain and will be a first for me - I'm looking forward to it! We may elect to stop for lunch on the way back, but make sure you bring plenty of water and snacks!
Horseshoe Mountain Trail - Saturday 2/29 9:45 am - 12:00 pm

Trail head: Otay Lakes Road, Jamul, CA 91935
Meeting Point: At the Trail head
Distance: 3.7 Miles
Elevation Gain: 1,223'

A bonus weekend hike in February for Leap Year! Celebrate the day with a nice challenging hike in South San Diego county. Only 20-30 min from La Mesa (dependent upon whether or not you take the toll road), Horseshoe Mountain overlooks the Otay Reservoir. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat since we are getting a little later start for this one!
Cowles/Pyles Peaks - Friday 3/6 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Trail head:  7001 Golfcrest Dr, San Diego, CA 92119
Meeting Point: At the Trail head
Distance: 5.3 Miles
Elevation Gain: 1,778'

Let's hit up two more of the peaks from Mission Trails 5 Peaks Challenge! Most of us have hiked Cowles Mountain before, but did you know that you can continue on from the Cowles Peak to Pyles Peak? It's just a mile further!! Let's conquer these two together!
**** CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN **** Mt. Woodson/Potato Chip Rock
Wednesday 3/11 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Trail head:  14644 Lake Poway Rd, Poway, CA 92064
Meeting Point: Lake Poway Parking Lot (free on weekdays)
Distance: 7.6 Miles
Elevation Gain: 2,106'

Mt. Woodson (home of the iconic Potato Chip Rock) is just about as crowded as Cowles on the weekends. So, let's head up there mid-week and see if we have better luck! This is a challenging hike, rated hard on Alltrails due to the steep and relentless incline. Bring lots of water, snacks and a sense of adventure!
**** CANCELLED **** Seven Bridge Walk Balboa Park
Wednesday 5/20 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Trail head:  1875 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101
Meeting Point: Fountain in Front of Ruben H Fleet
Distance: 6.6 Miles
Elevation Gain: 485'

An evening hike for a change. Let's check out the Seven Bridge Walk around Balboa Park and the surrounding neighborhoods! This sweet little urban hike is a respectable 6.6 miles, but relatively flat. Sunset is at 7:00, so we'll get to be out to see the gorgeous sky over the Prado.
**** CANCELLED ****San Elijo Lagoon - Monday 5/25 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Trail head:  126 Solana Point Cir, Solana Beach, CA 92075
Meeting Point: At the trail head
Distance: 5.3 Miles
Elevation Gain: 193'

Aka: North Rios, Solana Hills, Santa Inez and La Orilla Trail on Alltrails.com, this out and back trail is quite flat, and goes around the San Elijo Lagoon and surrounding area. Previous experience in this area tells me it would be a good idea to bring bug spray. We may complete this one in less than the 2.5 hours allotted, as it presents little in the way of obstacles/challenges to slow our pace.
**** CANCELLED **** Cedar Creek Falls
***Permit Required - Please sign up in advance***

Sunday 6/7 7:00 am - 12:00 pm

Trail head:  15519 Thornbush Rd, Ramona, CA 92065
Meeting Point: At the trail head
Distance: 4.9 Miles
Elevation Gain: 1,033'

Cedar Creek Falls takes us out to a waterfall, which I anticipate will be pretty full in March. This trail does require a permit that costs $10 for every 5 people. We will need to plan in advance, so please sign up ASAP. Bring good shoes as we may need to cross the creek a few times. The elevation gain comes on the way out for this one, so bring plenty of snacks and water to keep your energy levels up for the second half of the day!
